Zlatna has an Educational and Development Resource Centre

02.02.2010

The kindergarten no. 1 in the town of Zlatna is to become an Educational and Development Resource Centre (CRED). The official opening of the new centre is to take place on the 2nd of February, 2010. The project is coordinated locally by instructor Mihaela Marchedon, alongside instructor Cipriana Morar and preceptress Nicoleta Ursalăş.

Nationwide, the Project for the Early Education Reform (P.R.E.T.), amounting to 105 million Euros, is co-financed by the Romanian government and the Development Bank of the European Council and it has three major objectives: improving the infrastructure (rehabilitating and constructing new kindergartens), training the kindergarten staff and improving the services provided by the pre-school system (equipment with teaching material; educational games and books; developing adequate spaces for children with special needs; counselling for parents).

“Our children and I”

Locally, the project is being carried out by means of the Alba County School Inspectorate within the centre entitled “Our children and I”. It shall provide integrated education, care and protection services for children aged under 7 and assistance in making up the educational materials required for activities with parents and children. Likewise, training, information, dissemination, counselling services shall be provided for parents and families or for the human resources in the early or community schooling units, but it especially wants to make the children and parents’ relationship more profound. “ The new CRED in Zlatna is a non-profit educational unit with an activity focused on children aged from one day to 7 years old and all the categories of adults taking part in the education, protection and care thereof, especially family members and teachers ”, according to the project coordinator, Mihaela Marchedon.

Apart from the town of Zlatna, this type of centres also operates in the Alba County in the towns of Câmpeni, Cugir, Ocna Mureş, Teiuş, Abrud, Baia de Arieş and the municipalities of Alba Iulia, Sebeş, Aiud and Blaj.

The selection of the kindergartens was performed starting from the proposals of each County School Inspectorate, based on criteria including the number of registered children, the current status of the buildings, as well as the involvement of the local community.

Eugenia Ignat, a school inspector for the pre-school education, and the preceptress Veronica Suciu are certified CRED experts for the county of Alba.

Improving the Pre-school Education System

The main purpose of the project for early education reform is to improve the quality of the system infrastructure and to answer the actual needs of children by providing upgraded services in favour of reaching the maximal potential of each child, in accordance with the international educational standards.

Specifically, the Project covers: the improvement of the current infrastructure of the education system by rehabilitating and developing pre-school units; an increase in the level of the pre-school education by training the teachers and providing adequate teaching materials; an efficient educational system by means of the creation of the Education and Development Resource Centre, as well as by developing the educational management system of the Ministry of Education and Research.

As part of the Project, nationwide, 410 new kindergartens will be built, whereas 340 more kindergartens will be rehabilitated. Likewise, the approximately 13,000 national kindergartens shall all be equipped with teaching material (educational games, toys and books), and all the people working in the pre-school units (about 35,000 pedagogues, 2,500 directors and 13,000 people working as support staff) will be taking training classes.
